Itinerary

Day 1

After meeting at Hässleholm train station at 2:30pm we drive to the town of Broby. Checkin at our boutique hotel Broby Gästgivaregård then join us for welcome drinks and dinner. (Train connections are available between Hässleholm Sweden and Copenhagen city and international airport Denmark)

Day 2

We begin with a visit to the atelier of award winning textile artist and tapestry weaver Annika Ekhdahl in Kyrkult.

Annika creates large scale narrative works utilising Renaissance and Baroque techniques with a modern approach that includes digital techniques. Her unique contemporary artworks take up to a year and a half to complete, and depict animals, people, places and stories from her own life. Annika’s tapestries have been exhibited extensively and are held in collections internationally.

Driving through the Swedish countryside we then visit the spectacular estate of Wanås at Knislinge, home to one of the world’s foremost sculpture parks. The estate’s magnificent barns house permanent and temporary exhibitions, there is also a small medieval castle, organic farm, shop, cafe and hotel. Following lunch at Wanås and an opportunity to explore the sculpture park and exhibitions, we return to Broby.

Days 3-6

The Swedish loom museum, Glimåkra VävstolsMuseet will host our 4 day rag rug weaving workshop with Marie. In addition to its program of courses, the museum holds events and houses a small permanent exhibition of looms, textiles and weaving tools.

Marie’s workshop will focus on the creation of a small rag rug (approximately 2’ x 4’, 60cm x 120cm) including dyeing of recycled fabrics, preparation of looms, and a variety of rag rug weaving techniques. Participants can explore a range of techniques (creating a sampler) or focus on a few techniques for their rug. Workshop hours are 9am - 4pm daily. This is a small group workshop, limited to a maximum of 6 participants.

Days 7 - 8

Checking out of Broby Gästgivaregård we drive to the west coast of Sweden to visit the atelier and showroom of renowned Swedish artisan weavers Märta Måås-Fjetterström. MMF have been handweaving fine carpets and tapestries in their Båstad studio since 1919. Their work is represented in collections of some of the world’s most prestigious museums, including The Louvre, The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The National Museum of Sweden.

Following our time in Båstad we drive to the small city of Lund where we checkin for our final 2 nights at the Grand Hotel. In addition to Kulturen and Skissernas museums, we visit the atelier of handwoven textiles expert Gunvor Johansson. Gunvor is a master weaver, academic and author of weaving text “Heirlooms of Skåne”.
