Visit ceramics destinations in Copenhagen and participate in a 4 day advanced porcelain workshop with Christian Bruun at his studio in Charlottenlund. Then attend the European Ceramic Context Biennale on the Danish island of Bornholm, Europe’s first region to be recognised as a ‘World Craft Region’ by the World Craft Council. This workshop is suitable for experienced potters.

Workshop instructor Christian Bruun is one of Copenhagen’s most highly regarded ceramicists. He’s been working in fine hand-thrown porcelain and large scale stoneware at his Charlottenlund studio and Vietnam workshop since the early 1990s. Christian’s work is represented in various private collections and museums including Designmuseum Denmark, Clay Keramikmuseum Denmark, Kirsten Kimer's museum Thy, International Ceramic center Skælskør and Artcodif Musee de Louvre Paris.

Itinerary

Day 1

Checkin at Hotel Kong Arthur and join us for welcome drinks followed by a casual dinner.

Day 2

We begin with a guided tour of Royal Copenhagen’s beautiful flagship store in the city centre. Founded as the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory by queen Juliane Marie, Royal Copenhagen has been producing finely crafted hand painted porcelain since 1775. Whilst on Strøget we also visit iconic Danish design and homewares stores Illums Bolighus and H.Skjalm P.

In the afternoon we head to the neighbourhood of Vesterbro to visit local ceramics studios.

Days 3 - 6

Advanced porcelain throwing workshop with Christian Bruun at his studio in Charlottenlund, 20 minutes north of Copenhagen city centre. Transport between Christian’s studio and the Copenhagen hotel will be by private minibus.

Christian has customised a 4 day workshop for us where you work directly with him, producing up to 10 pieces. This is an opportunity to work with a master craftsman, developing your skills in turning porcelain.

The workshop is limited to a maximum of 8 participants and is suitable for experienced potters. Workshop hours are approximately 10am - 3pm. Daily lunches and refreshments are included. Finished items will be fired and shipped to participants following the workshop.

On weekdays after the workshop there will also be the opportunity to visit local ceramics studios and stores in the Copenhagen neighbourhoods of Frederiksberg and Nørrebro.

Day 7

We visit inner city galleries including Officinet, the exhibition space of danish crafts & design association Danske Kunsthåndværkere & Designere, before taking in Designmuseum Denmark’s exhibitions of decorative art, crafts and design. Following a free afternoon we get together for dinner on our final night in Copenhagen.

Day 8

Checkout of Hotel Kong Arthur and say farewell in Copenhagen, or continue onto the Danish island of Bornholm for the European Ceramic Context Biennale.

Accommodation

We’ll be staying at Hotel Kong Arthur in the inner city neighbourhood of Nansensgade. The hotel is within walking distance of Copenhagen’s city sights, food markets, shopping streets, museums and lakes.
